The MS-ESM program represents the first in a series of sustainability-focused interdisciplinary degree programs at Georgetown. The Earth Commons, in partnership with the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, McDonough School of Business, and other schools at Georgetown, is currently recruiting many new and leading faculty members.

Dr. Maria Petrova

Academic Co-Director, MS-ESM
Associate Director, The Earth Commons
Professor of Environmental Science, Sustainability, and Energy Policy.

Prior to Georgetown, Dr. Petrova managed Coasts and Communities program at University of Massachusetts Boston, an NSF-supported, interdisciplinary curriculum for PhD and Master’s students.

Course topics include environmental science and policy, climate change, sustainability, human geography, and communications both in the United States and abroad.

Professor of Operations and Information Management

Academic Director of the McDonough Business of Sustainability Initiative, MBA Certificate of Sustainable Business, and Sustainable Business Fellows program.

Course topics include sustainable business strategies: circular economy, business model innovation, renewable energy, supply chain sustainability, product development, and consumer behavior.

Named “Top 40 Under 40 MBA Professor” by Poets and Quants (2020).
